In Network Marketing, the opportunity meeting is a very powerful tool. When used effectively, it will cause your closing percentages to go through the roof. The main purpose of the opportunity meeting is to get your prospects to see a bigger picture and to get them closed by someone other than yourself. This really helps new distributors, as well as distributors who may not have the influence to close their prospects themselves. There is one vital thing you must remember. Do not take a cold prospect to an opportunity meeting, if you can help it. You want your opportunity meeting to be the finale in your prospecting system. So make sure you expose your prospect to your business before the opportunity meeting.(1on1’s, 2on1’s, in home meeting, conference calls, dvds, webinars, etc.) Also, follow-up with them before the meeting. Find out what they liked most from what was shared. If they have questions, you can address them or if they need more information, you can provide it. But the key is to find out if they see value or not and to get them to do their due diligence before the opportunity meeting.
But, let’s backup and take a closer look at what makes it work.
You want to promote the opportunity meeting like you are Don King promoting a prize fight. You want to really edify the speaker and also edify some of the successful leaders who will be attending. You also want to edify some of the distributors who have something in common with your guest. Then you want to fear of loss them and create even more urgency. See, people are moved, by what they stand to loose, faster than they are, by what they stand to gain.
Okay, let’s go to the meeting!!!
Keep the doors to the presentation area locked until it’s time for the meeting.
You want to create an air of excitement and this will build the anticipation outside the doors. So, you and your guest should arrive at least 30 minutes early and get registered. By arriving early and getting registered, two very important things take place. The team gets an accurate head count and knows exactly how many chairs to put out. Imagine having a bad turnout and the doors open and there’s a million chairs. Your meeting will look like a failure and you don’t want that. Secondly, your guest will get the opportunity to meet the leaders you promoted and also get a chance to meet team members that have similar backgrounds. You want your guest to feel comfortable and realize there are others there just like them. If you can provide coffee or water during this meet and greet period, it will also help to make your guest comfortable. There should be no politics and no gossiping. This Will Kill Your Business!!! If you had a bad day, don’t take it with you into your opportunity meeting. Remember, your meeting should be upbeat and positive.
It’s Time!! Music starts playing from within and The Doors Are Opened, On Time!! Music will take the excitement to another level. But, make sure the music is upbeat and instrumental only. No Words!! Team members and their guest should fill the room from the front row to the back. You don’t want empty seats down front.
Let’s Play Team!!
Once everyone is seated and the music stops, you want to secure the doors. You don’t want people going in and out of your opportunity meeting. So, let your guest know it going to last for about 40 minutes and team members and other guest who come late will have to wait. You can set a point in the presentation where you will quietly let them in, but only allow them to sit in the very back of the room. You want your guest focused on the speaker. Picture this. Throughout your meeting, people have been coming and going. I mean, stepping all across you, bumping you from behind and coming in late making all kind of noises. Question? Where do you think your guest’s focus is going to be? That’s right, on the distractions!! So, a big part of playing team is understanding that an environment has been created to give guest the opportunity to really see the big picture and to catch the vision.
My, My, My…..I’ve heard this presentation a million times.
I know you have, but your guest is experiencing it for the first time. So, stay alert, be positive and sit forward in your chair. Another key part of playing team is your participation. If the speaker ask for a show of hands, raise yours. The speaker may say that same old joke you’ve heard a thousand times, Laugh. See, by the team participating in the meeting, you create synergy. Before you know it, your guest will get caught up in it and will be raising their hands, laughing and having a great time.
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah…I hear you. But when do I close them? After The Meeting!!!
If you are a new or an inexperienced distributor, don’t attempt to close your guest. If you can get them up to the speaker, let the speaker move your guest to action. If the speaker is swamped, get your guest to another qualified leader and let them close your guest. After your guest has committed, SHUT UP!! Don’t do a presentation after the presentation. Make small talk and HELP THEM GET ENROLLED.
